MY STRUGGLE 3 is a novel about childhood. A family of four—mother, father, and two boys—moves into a house in a newly built residential neighborhood in Southern Norway. It is the early 1970s.
The children are young, the parents are young, and the future lies open before them. But at some point, it begins to close in, and things start to change character. Who or what is it that changes? MY STRUGGLE 3 describes the world through the eyes of the child Karl Ove. Children and adults live side by side, but never truly meet. Friendships, girls, the wondrous world of school, and the sudden and unmotivated mood swings in the family are observed and sensed in an attempt to understand the world and what lies beneath.
